When taking photos on smartphones and digital cameras, orientation sensor tags (EXIF orientation values 1 through 8) are often embedded in file headers rather than rotating the underlying pixels. While modern smartphone galleries interpret these tags automatically, older operating systems, email clients, social forums, and web uploaders often ignore EXIF flags, displaying photos sideways or upside down.

Why did my photo upload sideways to another website originally?

Many smartphone cameras do not rotate pixel data directly; they merely write an orientation tag into EXIF metadata. If a viewing app does not read this tag, the photo displays in its raw sideways sensor orientation.

Does rotating an image swap its dimensions?

Yes, rotating an image 90° clockwise or counter-clockwise will swap its width and height (e.g. a 1920x1080 horizontal image becomes 1080x1920 vertical).

Can I flip an image horizontally like a mirror?

Yes, click 'Flip Horizontal' to mirror your photo across its vertical axis. You can also combine flips with 90° rotations.

Are my photos uploaded to your server?
