Unlike lossy formats that discard pixel data, PNG utilizes the Deflate compression algorithm combined with predictive filtering across pixel scanlines.

Our in-browser PNG compressor evaluates combinations of delta filtering strategies, cleans unneeded metadata ancillary chunks (such as text comments and creation timestamps), and optimizes compression tables. Every single original pixel and transparent gradient remains 100% identical.

Because PNG is lossless, photographic images containing millions of unpredictable colors will not compress as drastically as they would in JPEG or WebP. If you are compressing photos saved as PNG, we recommend converting them to WebP or JPEG for maximum savings.
